Early Interceptive Treatment (Phase I)

Early Treatment for children is recommended when children have skeletal discrepancies, anterior and posterior cross bites, and severe overbites. These treatments may begin as early as age 6. Palatal expanders, braces, and facemasks are often used in these patients. These early interceptive treatments are referred to as “Phase 1” treatments. After Phase 1 treatment, a holding period with a retainer is used to maintain the progress and wait for all adult teeth to come in. Most children will also need a second phase of braces during their teenage years.

We also recommend early treatment for thumb and finger habits. In these patients, a habit appliance is used to deter the habit.

Adolescent Treatment

The majority of orthodontic patients are adolescents. These patients are treated with traditional metal braces, clear braces, or clear aligners such as Invisalign. Treating during the teenage years, Dr. Adam can help guide your child’s jaw development, correct crowding, close spaces, and correct malocclusions (bad bites). By seeking treatment now, you invest in the future of your child’s smile. Healthy alignment can improve your child’s overall oral health and increase their social confidence.

Adult Treatment

Orthodontic braces were historically associated with teenagers.  Today, an increasing number of adults are choosing braces or clear aligners (Invisalign) to straighten their teeth and correct malocclusions (bad bites).  In fact, it is now estimated that almost one-third of all current orthodontic patients are adults. Whether you choose braces (metal or clear) or clear aligners (Invisalign), it is never too late for that perfect smile!
